About the Role: The digital fraud landscape is rapidly evolving, with fraudsters introducing increasingly complex and sophisticated methods for compromising accounts and processing fraudulent transactions. Our goal is to keep our customers’ accounts safe, provide them with uninterrupted access to their payment capabilities, and minimize the company’s risk exposure and fraud loss.
As a Risk Analyst on the Vagaro Merchant Services (VMS) team, you will bring an expert level of fraud detection experience and be responsible for analyzing suspicious transaction activity. We are looking for a highly organized and efficient professional who can wear multiple hats throughout the workday while prioritizing the most important tasks.
Reporting to the Fraud Prevention Supervisor and as part of the rapidly growing global payments team, you will help combat fraudulent activity by executing our Global Anti-Fraud strategy. You will play a key role in implementing tools and processes to detect and reduce fraud risks as soon as they emerge, including collaborating with technology and operations teams.
*This is an onsite position based in Pleasanton, CA, with a shift schedule of Wednesday through Sunday.*
Compensation:
- Hourly Rate: $28.00 - $33.00
- Annual Bonus: Up to 10%
Your Impact:
- Merchant Onboarding & KYC Compliance
- Review business and merchant applications to prevent and detect fraudulent signups.
- Conduct KYC (Know Your Customer) and AML (Anti-Money Laundering) due diligence to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Quickly and effectively research businesses online to evaluate eligibility for our platform.
- Transaction Monitoring & Fraud Prevention
- Monitor and analyze patterns of customer behavior to identify new fraud trends and develop strategies to prevent them.
- Investigate and provide resolutions for suspected or known fraud cases.
- Utilize fraud prevention tools such as Plaid, EverC, and Cybersource to mitigate financial risk.
- Risk Assessment & Compliance
- Assess high-risk merchants, industries, and activities to determine appropriate actions.
- Stay up to date on evolving fraud patterns, tools, and compliance requirements.
- Work cross-functionally with teams to ensure fraud and risk strategies align with business objectives.
- Customer & Team Support
- Answer merchant services phone calls, emails, and chats, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
- Assist internal teams with fraud-related inquiries and risk mitigation strategies.

- Experience in risk analysis, fraud prevention, or merchant processing.
- Knowledge of KYC/AML compliance, PCI DSS, and card network regulations (Visa, Mastercard, AMEX, Discover).
- Familiarity with fraud detection tools such as Plaid, EverC, and Cybersource.
- Background in payment processing, chargebacks, and fraud mitigation strategies.
- Prior experience working in fintech, e-commerce, or high-risk merchant verticals.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Risk Management, or a related field (preferred but not required).
